about Excessive Underarm Perspiration Description: People with hyperhidrosis produce sweat in amounts far greater than needed to control their temperature. It is often a disabling condition inhibiting one from doing normal activities such as socialising/job interviews and it can significantly lower one’s self-esteem. During a free consultation with the doctor (who is also a GP) a full assessment will be made to exclude underlying causes which may require alternative treatment or further investigations. Procedure: One of the most successful and safe treatments for localised hyperhidrosis is Botox® which is licensed for the treatment of hyperhidrosis and has been used since 1973 (see also Botox®). Small doses are painlessly injected into the armpits (shaving is not necessary). Botox® blocks the actions of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands: this prevents the glands from producing so much sweat. Safety: The treatment is very safe. Rarely, an increase in sweating in another part of the body may occur temporarily. Duration: Improvement of symptoms is usually noticed within a week of treatment. The effects last for 6-9 months and sometimes even longer. For more information please visit Botox®
